As part of our project to assess the effects of the recreational bay scallop fishery on marine turtles in the Big Bend of Florida, we recently undertook a two day trip to Crystal river to collect information on the spatial distribution and population structure of marine turtles in the region. Our team caught ten turtles (4 loggerheads, 4 greens and 2 kemps) and collected information on their size, health and samples for DNA and stable Isotope. Transects were also conducted for vessels and turtle distribution. This project is partially funded by the Sea Turtle License Plate Grants. The Sea Turtle Grants Program is funded from proceeds from the sale of the Florida Sea Turtle License Plate. Learn more at www.helpingseaturtles.org
