Graduate students Natalie Montero and Anthony Gillis have been busy teaching 4th graders from Franklin County Schools about marine turtle ecology, biology and conservation. Both, Natalie and Anthony, were surprised and thoroughly impressed by the student’s previous knowledge of turtles! Regardless of their previous knowledge, the students couldn’t even begin to guess that they would get first hand experience “working up” a turtle. Anthony and Natalie took a stuffed marine turtle along with morphometric and tagging supplies and guided the students to gather measurements and take samples of turtles. To finish each session, the students learned and practiced the most vital of techniques, holding a turtle!

We’re extremely happy to have a good relationship with Franklin County Schools and look forward to future visits!
